AmeriCorps announced that Up2Us Sports would once again receive critical funding for our national service coach program. Since 2009, AmeriCorps funding has allowed us to train and support over 3,900 coaches to significantly impact the lives of nearly 100,000 young people.
Welcome to a momentous occasion as we celebrate 14 incredible years of Up2Us Sports! Since our inception, we have been committed to empowering young people through the power of sports, national service and mentorship.
We hope you will read our latest Annual Report and we thank you for your support in helping us provide underserved youth with a coach who cares about them. This report covers our 2021-2022 program and fiscal year.
The Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children's Mental Health Innovation Awards—an initiative that aims to identify and fund mental healthcare solutions for children and young adults across the United States—honors a 2022 winner, Up2Us Sports.
Today, January 12th, 2023 is our 13th Anniversary, and we are expecting to have more impact in the year ahead than ever before. We will serve more kids, recruit more coaches, support more VISTAs (front office-based service members) and help more sports-based youth development programs across the country.
On Monday, January 20th, 2020, Up2Us Sports staff and coaches in Chicago, Miami, New Orleans and Seattle participated in the Corporation for National and Community Service’s (CNCS) MLK Day of Service. In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service and, fittingly, charged CNCS with leading this effort.
While the initial groundwork for the organization began in 2008 when Founder & CEO Paul Caccamo received funding to run the first sports-based youth development conferences in major U.S. cities - which would later become the regional hubs for Up2Us Sports - our effective date of nonprofit exemption granted by the Internal Revenue Service was January 12, 2010.
We hope you will read our 2018-2019 Annual Report and we thank you for your support in helping us provide underserved youth with a coach who cares about them. As we look back over our last fiscal year, we celebrate the growth of our partnerships, the expansion of our content, and, most importantly, the impact we are having on sports and positive youth development.
Monumental Sports & Entertainment has announced Up2Us Sports – a nonprofit providing game-changing solutions by putting sports in the hands of highly-trained coaches – will be its community partner in October as the organization shines a light on youth sports all month long and officially kicks off a new social impact program.
Through Up2Us Sports’ national coaching program, 300 AmeriCorps members will be trained to coach and mentor low-income youth to make better decisions, stay healthy, and reach their potential, through the power of sports. The $2.6 million in grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) will support AmeriCorps members nationally with added support from CaliforniaVolunteers, Serve Illinois, Volunteer Louisiana, PennServe and Serve Washington.
