On May 9, 2024, AmeriCorps - the federal agency for national service and volunteerism - announced that Up2Us Sports would once again receive critical funding for our national service coach program. Since 2009, AmeriCorps funding has allowed us to train and support over 3,900 coaches to significantly impact the lives of nearly 100,000 young people.
This AmeriCorps State and National funding will support up to 130 AmeriCorps members to join Up2Us Coach during the 2024-2025 service year. This grant will support AmeriCorps members nationally and will continue allowing us to provide comprehensive training, professional development, and ongoing support to coach-mentors, ensuring they have the skills and resources necessary to make a lasting impact on the lives of the young people they serve.
In addition. Up2Us Sports will receive funding at the state level through local state commissions with added support from California Volunteers, PennSERVE, Serve Illinois and Volunteer Louisiana. More information on state commission grants will be announced as they become available.
“Up2Us Sports is honored to strengthen our impact alongside AmeriCorps. Through our longstanding partnership, Up2Us Sports has achieved a significant and lasting impact on behalf of youth and communities across the nation,” said Jack Callahan, Senior National Director of AmeriCorps Programs. “Year after year, we continue to see the vital role that highly-trained coach-mentors play in urban and low-income communities. Our coaches are trained to be credible messengers of health, who know how to harness the power of sports to help youth thrive and reach their potential. With our support from AmeriCorps, our team will further advance our understanding of how sports and coaches can help youth and communities define and reach their potential.”
