Up2Us Sports Celebrates with Service for MLK Day
On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, Up2Us Sports staff and coaches across the country participated in AmeriCorps’ MLK Day of Service. The Up2Us Coach and VISTA programs are funded by AmeriCorps, so it was only fitting that our terrific service members took this day of service and dedicated it to Dr. King’s honor.

Up2Us Sports Hosts Virtual MLK Day of Service Event
On Monday, January 18th, Up2Us Sports hosted a virtual event for MLK Day of Service. Nearly ten years after Martin Luther King Jr. Day signed into law as a federal holiday, it was officially established as a national day of service by Congress in 1994. It is observed as “a day on, not a day off” and is the only federal holiday nationally recognized as a day of service. This day of service is led by AmeriCorps, who also funds our Up2Us Sports Coach Program.
MLK Day of Service in Chicago, Miami, New Orleans and Seattle
On Monday, January 20th, 2020, Up2Us Sports staff and coaches in Chicago, Miami, New Orleans and Seattle participated in the Corporation for National and Community Service’s (CNCS) MLK Day of Service. In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service and, fittingly, charged CNCS with leading this effort.
