Up2Us Sports announced this week that Collette V. Smith, the NFL’s first African American female coach in history and New York Jets first female coach in their franchise history, has joined the organization as an Ambassador. In addition to her trailblazing NFL coaching story, Smith is a former player, coach and executive staff member for the New York Sharks, women’s professional football team and is currently the Director of Government & Community Relations for the WNFC, a new Women’s Pro Football League.

In 2017, she launched her own company, Believe N You, Inc, where she visits low income, underserved and marginalized communities to motivate and inspire our youth, young girls and women to believe in themselves and never give up pursuing their dreams. She also does motivational public speaking at corporations and universities to teach the importance of giving back and not being so quick to judge people but instead understanding their hardships and knowing that being kind is vital to helping this world to be a better place for everyone. Her goal is to level the playing fields!

"Being an Up2Us Sports Ambassador means the world to me as they believe in embracing our children and equipping them with the right tools to tackle all obstacles from obesity, conflict resolution, the importance of achieving good grades and simply being a mentor and role model to our kids which will positively impact their lives forever.” - Collette V. Smith

Since 2018, Smith has been involved with Up2Us Sports. She attended our Annual Gala, participated in our Philadelphia Coach Training Institute, and promoted our #ThanksCoach campaign, among other ways of support. Smith also serves as an ambassador for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Voss Foundation, and Women’s Sports Foundation, and is a Make-A-Wish® Wish Granter.
