Up2Us Sports is pleased to have taken part in an episode of AmeriCorps’ Be the Greater Good Facebook Live video series. Hosted by AmeriCorps VISTA Director Desiree Tucker-Sorini, the series showcases how AmeriCorps members serving in the VISTA program #GetThingsDone in communities across the country.
The episode aired live on Facebook on on Wednesday, January 13, 2020. In this episode, Desiree Tucker-Sorini spoke with three AmeriCorps members serving in the VISTA program who are using their passion for sports to serve.
Each AmeriCorps member is serving with Up2Us Sports where they have used their skills in sports like soccer and skating to impact the lives of children and youth living in poverty.
The three members are:
Robin Taylor: A previous Up2Us Sports coach in Chicago. Robin is now a VISTA on the Up2Us Sports Programs team in Chicago. She is from the area and has a vast knowledge of the sports space in the Chicago community.
Ray Mendez - VISTA at Harold Hunter Foundation. Ray is active in the skateboard community in New York City. The Harold Hunter Foundation is working with older skaters through mentorship and support.
