Virtual Training: Reframe Your Virtual Coaching

On May 19, 2020, Up2Us Sports hosted a Virtual Training for Up2Us Sports coaches with Coach Macky of Steady Buckets.

SBYD programs and coaches have been forced to pivot in order to continue to reach and teach young people. Coach Macky of Steady Buckets has very successfully made the switch from in-person programming to virtual community building. He now provides basketball skill instruction and the opportunity for participants to continue to experience peer connections via live workouts on Zoom. These free workouts run daily from 11am-7pm and attract over 1,000 participants every week. Each workout is designed for a specific audience - quiet/no-dribbling, girls only, advanced ball handling, shooting, yoga, 4-8 year olds only, and open/all ages. Macky considers his competition to be pre-recorded workouts like Steph Curry’s Master Class and stresses the importance of communication, friendship, and teamwork as the reasons why innovating live virtual classes is critically important for youth living through the pandemic. Coach Macky will discuss the positive aspects of transitioning to virtual coaching, provide key tips and tricks, and share his take on the future of virtual coaching.
